Tasting note
Moutai (also spelled Maotai) is believed to be the most popular liquor in China. Some say, after Cognac and Scotch, it is the most popular in the world. Made by distilling fermented Sorghum (a grass that is a distant cousin of sugar cane), it is generally enjoyed neat, especially to toast a bride and groom at their wedding. A new generation is creating cocktails with it, such as the 'Mao-gerita', a mixture of Moutai (1.5 oz./45 mL), Cointreau (.5 oz./15 mL) and a squeeze of lime juice in a shaker.
