Tasting note
Part of the newly released bin wines from Penfolds, the 2014 Coonawarra Shiraz will be turning up on store shelves in the coming months. A nice counterpoint to the rich and rewarding Kalimna Shiraz, this expression is more spicy and polished. The cool climate character lends a refined personality to a wine that's drinking nicely now and has the capacity to cellar for 10 or more years. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (Christopher Waters, Vines, Winter 2016)
Under the garnet colour, the nose is intense and complex. Enjoy this dry, full-bodied and woody red featuring light acidity. On the palate, it showcases fleshy tannins and a full-bodied mouthfeel that leads into a long finish.
Flavours of red licorice, juniper and rhubarb.
An intense nose with lifted berry, dark pepper and spice aromas. Flavours of blackcurrant fruits, subtle oak and fine tannins combine to create an impressive flavour and mouthfeel impression.
Youthful and medium bodied, Bin 128 is a beautiful crimson red colour. An initial wave of savoury tempation strikes with dried herbs, basil, cola, stewed rhubarb, cedar and black pepper on the nose. Fresh raspberry, elderberry, oak, and white chocolate are evident on the palate.
*Available only in the BC Liquor Store at the Vancouver International Wine Festival Feb. 26-28, 2015.* A convivial, lively shiraz, 128 offers red fruit vibrancy balanced by round, spicy tannins. Its simple berry-scented fruit will keep you chewing on the bones long after the lamb chops are gone. Treasury Wine Estates, Napa, CA
