Tasting note
The Fairview The Goatfather 2013 is a blend of Sangiovese from Darling, Barbera from Swartland, Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch and Nebbiolo from Paarl. Once in the cellar, after destalking and gentle crushing, the grapes are vinified separately in stainless steel tanks. Once malolactic fermentation had taken place, the wine was taken to 225 litre oak barrels for 14 months. After maturation, the blending took place and the wine was prepared for bottling. It looks like: Gem bright plum red at the core and paling to garnet at the edge of the glass. It smells like: Roadside brambles. Touch of charcuterie. Fynbos herbs. It tastes like: Medium of body, a generosity of fruit, subtle oak and soft tannins, nice long dry aftertaste. (Michael Olivier, michaelolivier.co.za, Feb. 22, 2015)
Under the ruby colour, the nose is medium and complex. Enjoy this dry, full-bodied and woody red featuring refreshing acidity. On the palate, it showcases fleshy tannins and a broad mouthfeel that leads into a medium finish.
