Tasting note
The Malbec (5%, versus 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Shiraz) sings in the juiciness and violet lift of a vintage characterised by a mild summer with cool nights. Black pepper riffs and a gentle pucker of plum skin add layers and interest to this lively Black Label's well-defined black cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. Though new and American oak is down again (to 52% and 22% respectively), its mocha notes currently sit apart. Needs time. Drink: 2017-2030+. Score - 94. (Sarah Ahmed, decanter.com, Sept. 20, 2016)
This dry, full-bodied and fruity red displays a complex and intense nose. On the palate, its refreshing acidity, fleshy tannins, and full-bodied texture precede a long finish.
This brick-red wine has fruity aromas. One year barrel-ripening in old barrels produces this fine, spicy wine.
A powerful expression of the Wolf Blass philosophy of synergistic blending, Black Label is built on persistence of flavour, seamless texture and long, velvety tannins, with opulent yet elegant fruit from the Barossa Valley, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale providing richness, depth and exceptional complexity.
