Tasting note
All the components in this attractive chardonnay are nicely balanced right now, although you can easily tuck it away for a few years to let the oak and fruit integrate even more. At present, the oak (50% of the wine is aged in a mix of some new and mostly older barrels) is a light patina on the fruit - subtly present in the flavour, and contributing to the texture. The fruit itself is ripe, as you'd expect from 2012, and well structured and layered, which the broad seam of acidity is clean and fresh. Score - 4 stars out of 5. The palate is very full in body with rich oak nuances up front that integrate seamlessly with the wines very ripe yet fresh apple and honeydew melon fruit and distinctly stony texture in the middle. The finish is quite spicy, with nuances of ginger and clove continuing with great persistence.
