Tasting note
The Colline Teramane DOC would not exist without Dino Illuminati, who was always convinced of the quality of this area and the unique features of the wines produced between Gran Sasso and the Adriatic. To judge by the quality of his wines, he was not wrong: the winery has been active since the 1800s, as the labels proudly claim, turning out powerful, densely textured wines that often sacrifice finesse in favour of the rich Mediterranean features typical of this area. The new generations have wisely changed very little of the recipe of the old Controguerra cellar: from food-friendly whites to ambitious Montepulciano crus, always living up to their international reputation. The 2010 Zanna is once again an astonishingly good Colline Teramane Riserva, a prototype of this terroir with complex, varietal aromas, clear-cut fruit with attractive husky sensations and an elegant, close-knit palate with subtle tannins. Score - 3 out of 3 Glasses. (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines, 2015)
