Tasting note
Jekel was established in 1972 and began producing wines in 1978. They were one of the first to explore and unleash the winemaking potential of Monterey. The grapes for this Pinot were sourced from a site planted on an ancient alluvial plain and enjoyed the moderating effect of cool Pacific breezes, a key factor in this wine's balance. There's a wealth of dark and red berry fruit here as well as beet, herbs and spice tones. Juicy and elegant, this is a fine example of Monterey's excellent cool-climate expression. (Vintages panel, May 2016)
The 2011 Pinot Noir has aromas of cherry cola, smoked meats with floral notes, a little light strawberry, and a bit of dried herbs. In the mouth, you'll find a soft, medium-weight wine with approachable tannins and balanced acidity. The wine is pleasing with cherry flavors that linger just a bit.
