Tasting note
Despite the tough vintage, an excellent effort here. Love the density of tannins in particular, razor thin but not drying at all. Fruit is lively, with shades of darker fruits, and a succulent juicy quality. Oak is already nicely incorporated. You can sense the minerality, anchoring the wine. Touch of tar on the finish. Still young, this needs time, but the stuffing is there. Great effort. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (Bill Zacharkiw, winealign.com, May 2, 2014)
Just nosing the glass, one senses a great brooding power and longevity under dense fruit and fine-grained tannins. Slowly, a bouquet of red and black fruit rises from the glass: dried flowers, orange zest, game, plums, spice and leather all contribute to the dance here, but the pure, kirsch-flavoured fruit always dominates the ensemble. The alluring, expansive layered red fruit flirts with darker-berries, leading to a long, finish that reveals strong chalky minerality, firm acidity and tannins.
