Tasting note
The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape is a beautiful wine in the vintage, and Marc compares it to the 2012. I'm not sure I agree, but there's no denying the quality in this 2014. Sporting a deep ruby color and terrific notes of blackberries, ground herbs, pepper and Provençal spice, it shows the more forward, charming nature of the vintage and is medium to full-bodied, pure and balanced. Drink it anytime over the coming decade. Drink Date: 2016-2026. Score - 93. (Jeb Dunnuck, robertparker.com, Oct. 28, 2016 )
On the nose are red fruits, leather, truffles and musk leading to palate flavours of spices, pepper and licorice.
Nearly black in colour. The nose is very delicate and powerful at the same time, with red fruit, blackcurrants, blackberries, spices, thyme and lavender. The bouquet is very elegant, rich and round, with figs, cherries, blackcurrants and stewed fruit, all with great acidity. The tannins are present but very delicate.
95 points – Anthony Gismondi. There is Châteauneuf and then there is Beaucastel - one of the top ten bottles made in the region of hundreds. A superb, full-bodied red that will hold up for the ages.
