Tasting note

Medium to deep garnet color with a touch of purple, the 2010 Shiraz opens with a fragrantly scented nose of dried mulberries, warm black plums and blackberry preserves with hints of sandalwood, Chinese five spice and potpourri. Medium-bodied with a good amount of evolving black fruit and baking spice flavors structured by a medium level of chewy tannins and crisp acid, it finishes with good length. Drink it now to 2017+. Score - 90. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW, robertparker.com, Aug. 2013)

Tahbilk is a bulwark of Victorian Shiraz. Its original plantings are some of Australia’s earliest. Wine & Spirits Magazine selected Tahbilk’s original 1860 Vines Shiraz Vineyard as one of the great twenty-five vineyards in the world. Traditional vinicultural techniques, as practiced by Tahbilk’s winemakers in the 1860s, are still utilized. To this day, the original above-ground storage facility, or chais, of the winery is an integral part of Tahbilk's operations. The 2007 Nagambie Lakes Shiraz has been made utilizing traditional Tahbilk techniques. It was fermented in open oak vats before maturation in French oak for eighteen months prior to bottling. This Shiraz is a deep red colour in the glass. The nose and palate show an intense mixture of blackberries and spice combined with plum and anise overtones. The finish is long and flavoursome, balanced with fine grape tannins. Cellaring and Pairing Suggestions: This medium-to-full bodied wine is delicious now but will improve with age. The perfect pairing with grilled steak, lamb casserole, or beef stew.
