Tasting note
The whiskies produced by Mortlach are highly sought-after for use in blends and, as in this case, by independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail. Aromas of burnt sugar, maple sap, vanilla, candied fruit, flowers, woodsmoke, and butterscotch. The palate is dry, smooth and round, with some fiery spice mid-palate and nice balance and complexity. Sweet notes emerge on the long, layered finish, reprising the excellence foreshadowed by the nose. Add a drop of water to smooth out the experience. (VINTAGES panel, Nov. 2011)
