Tasting note
Dripping with fresh, clean, ultra high quality oloroso there remains enough tangy malt to underscore the island location; a fabulous marriage of juicy grape and thick, uncompromising malt. It is an arm wrestle for supremacy between the two...but it is the delicate spices which win; salty chocolate raisin; a tang to the oils on both nose and finish suggests an over widened middle, but such is the quality of the sherry butts and the intensity of the salt-stained malt, all is forgiven. Score - 93. (Jim Murray, Whisky Bible, 2014)
Colour Golden chestnuts, rich amber. Nose A lovely sherried nose with notes of fig, orange marmalade, hints of leather and a touch of smoke. Palate Medium to full bodied. Rich sherry fruit cake, milk chocolate, creamy toffee, light oak, and a hint of white pepper creating a lovely spicy tang. Finish Softly spicy, tingling with a nutty note, a hint of salt, lingering then gently fades.
