Tasting note
As noted in my review for the Closson Chase Churchside Vineyard pinot, it's great to see site specificity emerging with greater clarity with each passing vintage, and despite a winemaker change. Although the latest releases from Closson Chase under Keith Tyers are tighter, brighter and less oxidative overall than those from the Debra Paskus era, it seems that Prince Edward County terroir in general, and Closson's two parcels on either side of Closson road, have the last word on wine profile. The Closson Chase Vineyard pinot is consistently more open and high-toned, and perfumed with typical tart cran-cherry county fruit and delicate floral aromatics. 2014 has yielded a lithe, sinewy, energetic pinot, very fine grained but with deceptive power and surprising length on the palate considering the modest 12.5% alcohol - the magic of PEC. A really lovely, elegant expression, and nicely priced, too. Drink or hold this another 3-4 years. Score - 90. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, Sept. 2, 2016)
Dark berry fruit, raspberry and dried black cherry. A wisp of beet root and earthiness.
