Tasting note
The 2005 Avatar is composed of 55% Grenache, 25% Shiraz, and 20% Mataro and spent 16 months in used French and American oak. Purple-colored, it exhibits a brooding nose of cedar, saddle leather, scorched earth, kirsch, and blueberry. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, well-balanced, ripe wine with layers of spicy red and black fruits. There is enough ripe tannin to support 5-7 years of further evolution in the cellar. Drink it through 2020. Score - 92. (Jay Miller, erobertparker.com, Oct. 2007)
