When sipping Dark Horse, you can experience a horseshoe shaped pattern on your tongue, with some sour and spice on the sides and sweetness on the tip. It imparts flavours of vanilla, smoke, sweet oak, and savory dried fruit such as plum and blackcurrant. Dark Horse is a very front finishing whisky, and very smooth. Deep golden amber colour; aromas of molasses, spice, sponge toffee, smoke, candied orange peel with cedar and tobacco notes; sweet entry, rich and smooth on the palate with flavours of spice, vanilla/sweet oak, toffee, dried fruit and roasted nut with cedar and brown sugar notes on the finish.
The nose of Dark Horse is full of oak and smoke imparted by the heavily charred American white oak barrels.
